# The Postmistress Cafe and Store

> The Postmistress Café and Store is nestled at the entrance of historic Old
Hartley, just fifteen minutes west of the Blue Mountains. The Postmistress
pays homage to the origins and occupants of ‘Number 8’ – the eighth
post office to be constructed in Australia, in 1845. The Postmistress name
honours the women who ran the post office and store for over 137 years,
including Mary and Ellen Finn, Mrs Neligan, Mrs Jane Ward and Mrs
Burke.
